Actually, Top 2000 Take Two… as I wrote a post about the Top 2000 last year. (So you can read that if you want to find out all the details about this awesome Dutch tradition!)
This year’s post is to celebrate the songs I voted for! So here goes:
1. Amy Winehouse – Back to Black
Wino is my all-time favourite artist. I vote her every year (this year is my 6th year of voting!)
2. Adele – Someone Like You
Again, Adele gets a vote every year. Usually this song, but I mix it up as all of her songs are pretty amazing. This live version is MUCH better than the album version. You’re welcome!
3. Roxy Music – If There Is Something
Not If There’s Something as Top 2000 seems to think. This is “our song” and was played at the wedding. Monumental song.
4. Roger Glover And The Butterfly Ball – Love is All
If I ever get a tattoo it will be “Love Is All” on my wrist. Possibly the happiest lyrics ever! (Until that tyke Pharrell made a whole bloody song about it, anyway!)
5. Texas – Say What You Want
Back to the old school… this isn’t my first choice of Texas song (that would be Halo) but the Top 2000 list only gave 2 choices. I saw Texas live last year and my 15-year-old self was BEYOND excited!
6. New Order – Blue Monday
No sticking to genres here. I’m a music slut.
7. No Doubt – Don’t Speak
One of the best songs of the 90s. Fact.
8. The Clash – London Calling
The Clash at their absolute best. Was gonna say one of the best songs of the 80s, but it came out in ’79. Doh!
9. The Fratellis – Chelsea Dagger
Never fails to make me smile/dance/sing along. TUNE!!!!!!!!!
10. Joy Divison – Love Will Tear Us Apart
Haunting.
11. Maroon 5 – She Will Be Loved
I have loved this song for 12 years and my passion is still going strong! Shame that the rest of their songs are a bit wank…
12. Bill Joel – Piano Man
Epic. Seriously epic.
13. Keane – Sovereign Light Cafe
I was massively slow on the uptake with this song as I only discovered it a couple of months ago – despite it being released in 2012! Not a Keane fan, except for this song.
14. 4 Non Blondes – What’s Up
I actually got stick on Facebook for this choice, but I wholeheartedly stand by it. Fucking fantastic song!
15. Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody
Obviously.
And now for the vrije keuzes (free choices):
16. Arctic Monkeys – I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor
I could use my whole 20 votes for this band (if it was allowed)…
17. The Vaccines – Wetsuit
See above. (Wait, do they even have 20 songs?!)
18. Jake Bugg – Green Man
If you haven’t heard this dude sing, you should do it now. This is a really early version when he performed for BBC Introducing! Bless!
19. Savages – No Face
“You have no face, you have no face, YOU HAVE NO FAAAAAACE!!” What’s not to love? I once heard a quote that if Ian Curtis & Siouxsie Sioux had a love child, it would be the lead singer of the Savages (Jehnny Beth). SPOT ON!
20. The Smiths – Panic
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out is on the stemlijst (voting list) but it should be replaced with THIS.
Have you voted yet? If not, you have until 19.00 tomorrow to vote! (28th November 2014.)
Enjoy!

Oooh some really great choices!
And speaking of really great – I just came across your blog and like it so much that I am going to recommend it to a friend that is very likely to move to Amsterdam in spring. Thanks!

I wonder if Bohemian Rhapsody will be the winner again this year (or maybe I’m getting mixed up and it is the one they always play at midnight regardless). Either way it gets my vote.

I blimmin’ hope so!! Nope, it has to win to be played at midnight 🙂 Since the Top 2000 started (1999) it has only been beaten to the number 1 spot twice: in 2005 by Boudewijn de Groot with Avond and in 2010 by Hotel California, The Eagles. Go Queen!!

Ohno! The Eagles usurp the throne!
I really love your votes, especially New Order and Joy Division. Are there any dutch songs you would consider voting for?

Great list ❤
I love Queen and I'm kinda depressed that the stupid Eagles are on #1.
But still, great list! Everyone who voted Queen always earns my respect!

Big shame about the Eagles indeed. I like the song but it’s not a top 2000 nr 1.
